Kent Hanway, Board Chairman
Mr. Hanway’s 23 years of experience in development and architecture, coupled with his interest in the unique retirement needs of the “boomer generation,” brings a valuable perspective to the board of directors. Mr. Hanway was born and raised in Nampa, Idaho, and attended the University of Idaho in Moscow, where he graduated with a degree in architecture. He has been with the same architectural firm for 23 years and is a licensed architect in 23 states. He currently sits on the board of directors for several professional organizations, including the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce, where he participates in many of the Chamber functions and committees.

Mary Lou Long
Ms. Long is a registered nurse with a master’s degree in gerontology and 30 years of experience in community health. As Director of Community Services, Home Care and Hospice for St. Luke’s Health System in Boise, Ms. Long is fully committed to the lifestyle that will be offered by The Terraces. Ms. Long has published several articles on aging and health care for seniors, and is well known in the area as an accomplished presenter and workshop facilitator.

Molly Mettler
As senior vice president of Healthwise, Inc., a thriving non-profit with a reputation for quality products and an exemplary workplace culture, Ms. Mettler is a tireless advocate for a stronger role for health care consumers. Ms. Mettler has extensive board experience, having served as the founding chair for the Health Promotion Institute for the past 18 years. As chair, Ms. Mettler moved the board to a policy governance structure, and after her term concluded was asked to found and run the National Leadership Council for the National Council on Aging. Ms. Mettler has written scores of books and articles on medical self-care and promotion. She has also served on myriad community boards and fund-raising events in the Boise area.

Stephanie Bender-Kitz, Ph.D.
Dr. Bender-Kitz is executive director for Friends in Action, Inc., a non-profit collaborative organization dedicated to sustaining quality of life, dignity and independence for older adults and their families through education and volunteerism. As a professional gerontologist, Dr. Bender-Kitz brings knowledge of the broad issues and aspects of aging, both from an individual and societal perspective. She brings leadership, project development/management, and teaching skills, as well as significant knowledge of public policy related to aging. She currently serves on the board of directors for Friends in Action, as well serving as a committee member with the Idaho Supreme Court Guardian and Fiduciary Committee. Previous board memberships include the Idaho Guardian and Fiduciary Association, and various boards in other cities.

Michaelina [Mia] Murphy
Ms. Murphy is an attorney in the Boise area, and has served on seven non-profit boards. She is currently the president of Boise Capital Soccer Club, a 501(c) (3) corporation. Other civic and community affiliations include Soroptomists, Idaho’s State Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program, University of Idaho’s Center for Entrepreneurial and Economic Development Center and Kiwanis. Ms. Murphy is a member of the Idaho State Bar, Federal District of Idaho Bar, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Bar and United States Supreme Court Bar. She is currently the managing member of Murphy Law Office, a private practice with emphasis on real estate transactions and litigation, with a concentrated interest in estate planning.

Bret Tinker
Mr. Tinker, vice president of Commercial Banking for the Idaho Independent Bank since 2004, brings over 25 years of banking experience to the table. He possesses keen insight into financial overview, construction, management and operations in the local market. His areas of expertise include marketing and sales management, revenue growth strategies, new product introduction, new business development, lending strategies, client development and small business marketing strategies. Mr. Tinker has served on various boards of directors, including Idaho Community Reinvestment Corporation, Business Information Center/Small Business Association and Small Business Success Center. He is a member of Boise Vista Lion’s Club and Ride Idaho.

Nancy K. Vannorsdel
While Ms. Vannorsdel spent the latter part of her career as president and CEO of the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce, she started it in the banking industry. After graduating from the University of Denver with a BSBA in retailing/marketing, she joined United Bank of Denver as a trust officer. She came to Idaho in 1979 to become marketing director for the Bank of Idaho (now Wells Fargo Bank). During her 20-year tenure, she held the positions of vice president of marketing, senior vice president in charge of retail, area president for Idaho and Montana, and division manager of premier banking. Ms. Vannorsdel has served on the board of directors of Regence Blue Shield of Idaho, as president of the Boise Philharmonic and as president of the Idaho Thoroughbred Association.
